Music Ministry

Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. Psalm 33:3

UBC Music Ministry

Why do we sing?

"God designed our psyche for singing. When singing praise to God, so much more than just the vocal box is engaged. God has created our minds to judge pitch and lyric; to think through the concepts we sing; to engage the intellect, imagination, and memory; and to remember what is set to a tune...God has formed our hearts to be moved with depth of feeling and a whole range of emotion as the melody-carried truths of who God is and whose we are sink in."

Keith Getty, Sing!: How Worship Transforms Your Life, Family, and Church

Music is a crucial element in the life of the believer, and it plays a significant role in our Worship Services. As a Praise Team or other music ensemble, whether vocal or instrumental, our purpose is to draw the congregation into the presence of the Lord and prepare our hearts to receive the Word of God through the preaching of the Word.

What style of music do we sing?

The members of UBC span the age spectrum - from bed babies and toddlers to our cherished seniors and everything in between. Music preferences are just as broad. So, we aim for a blended approach to the songs we sing. When selecting the music for congregational singing, we look at the following criteria:

Do the lyrics of the song line up with scripture and/or biblical principles?

Is the song singable by the average person?

Does the song glorify God?

Would an unbeliever understand the song is about God?

Rehearsals:

The Praise Team meets on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00 and then on Sunday mornings from 9:15-9:45 for our sound check with the AV Team.

How do I join the Praise Team?

Fill out the form below to indicate your interest or speak with our Music Director, Laurie Bergh.

Other Ensembles

Other ensembles, vocal or instrumental form when there is interest. Currently we have a small instrumental ensemble rehearsing on Thursdays at 6:30. The group will play preludes or offertories on occasion. Anyone who plays a wind, brass or string instrument is welcome.

Other Areas of Service

Our Audio/Visual Team is a crucial part of the Music Ministry. The audio side of the team runs the sound board, helping to balance the sound not only for the in-person service, but also for the livestream each week. Knowledge of sound equipment is a plus, but training will be provided. The Visual side of the team runs the camera for the livestream and the computer program for the words on the screen. Training for both the camera and computer will be provided.

If you are interested in participating in the Music Ministry or want more information, please fill out the form below and our Music Director, Laurie Bergh, will respond.
